Activites:
This year was my first time taking teams to competition and what an exciting year it has been.
I took two 3 member teams to the FCCLA Regional I competition in Lubbock, Texas and won
first and second place in Culinary Arts Star Events. The two teams were only one point apart from each other.
My first place winners will be going to Dallas in April for the FCCLA State competition.
There are 2 interesting fact about the 1st place winning team: 1) They are all 1st year students and all males, 2) they won
using only one portable stove. Teams are allowed to use three to four portable stoves in the contest. I decided to use three portable stoves
for each team. The butane canisters were accidentally left behind at the hotel and the upon arriving at the competition site the team discovered that
they only had 15 minutes of butane left in one stove and a full can in the other stove and no butane in the last stove. They thought they were out of the competition but decided to give it a chance. Boy did they make the right decision!!!!
Two weeks after we came back from Lubbock, one of my students decided she wanted to
compete in the High School Hospitality Educators Association of Texas cupcake competition. She practiced hard and won first place there.
Her and I will be traveling to Dallas in May for the next round of competitions.
I am so proud of my three teams and their hard work. I wish the very best for them as they continue onto their next
competitions!!! I hope that we can win at the state level and go on to nationals with the two first place teams.
